Kim Allen grew up in California where nature served as an early path for her spiritual life. She went on to earn a Ph.D. in material physics and began working as a technology analyst. But changes in her health refocused her journey, and in 2003 she began to meditate seriously, guided by her teacher Gil Fronsdal. She soon began sitting many long retreats, and in 2008 Kim was invited to begin teaching. Today she leads groups in Los Gatos and Santa Cruz and is a frequent guest teacher in other area Insight centers.
