Zen Master Dae Bong was born in 1950 in Philadelphia, PA. He studied psychology at university and later worked as a psychiatric counselor in a hospital and as a welder in a shipyard. But after hearing Zen Master Seung Sahn speak in 1977 he quit to pursue the dharma living and practicing with his teacher full time at different Zen centers around the world. Zen Master Dae Bong ordained as a monk in 1984 and received inka, or permission to teach, in 1992. He was given transmission to become a Zen master in 1999 and presently serves as Abbot and Jo Shil, resident Zen Master, of Musangsa International Zen Center in Korea. He is also the regional Zen master in Asia for the Kwan Um School of Zen.
