
Won Hak
Kwan Um Zen Dharma Teacher and psychologist
Born in Ukraine in 1986, Won Hak began Zen meditation in his early 20ā€™s and was ordained as a Buddhist monk, taking bhikkhu precepts 2017 in the Korean Zen tradition. With the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, he immediately returned home and worked as a volunteer managing a storehouse supplying humanitarian aid and teaching meditation to young Ukrainians in Lviv. He disrobed in May, 2024, and currently works as a trauma therapist at West Ukrainian State Childrenā€™s Hospital. A a licensed psychologist, he is working towards certification in dialectical-behavioural psychotherapy (DBT) focusing on patients with acute suicide and borderline personality disorders. He continues to lead the Lviv Zen Center helping young Ukrainians work through the existential challenges of wartime with Zen training.
